A Good Girls' Guide to Murder - Book Review
Hello and welcome back or welcome if you are new! I'm so glad you're here.
In today's post, I'm going to be sharing with you a review of one my most recent reads, A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson. To start, I'm just going to say, it gets 5 stars from me. It's an absolutely incredible book and it was so hard to put down as I was reading it.
So basically, this is a Young Adult murder mystery novel set in 2019 in the town of Fairview. The main character, Pip, is a high school senior getting ready to start her Capstone project and she decides to do a bit of a different project than her fellow classmates. Go back in time to 2014 and there is a disappearance of the then high school senior and super popular girl, Andie Bell. Quickly following Andie's disappearance, Andie's boyfriend, Sal Singh is found dead in the local woods by what appears to be suicide. After police investigation, Sal has Andie's blood on his person, as well as her phone which easily closed the case that Andie Bell was murdered by Sal Singh and he then committed suicide. Easy enough to believe, yes?
That's where Pip comes into play. Pip believes there is no way Sal killed Andie and so she decides to reopen this investigation on her own to find out what really happened to Andie and Sal. Pip teams up with Sal's look-a-like younger brother, Ravi. Sal's family is tortured throughout the town because Sal is an alleged murderer so Pip being seen with Ravi doesn't always get the best responses. Pip and Ravi work together and literally nearly everyone becomes a suspect in this ever-changing case.
This is one of the most gripping books I've ever read and by far the best murder mystery I've read so far in my life. It's one of those stories where you think you've figured it out and really stewed on it and thought it through and then out of nowhere the magnificent Holly Jackson throws you into yet another loop.
I think another aspect of this novel I enjoyed was how close to home it hit for me, personally. I also graduated in 2014 so to really see a story dive in around people my age just made it more real to me. Which to most that probably sounds quite silly but for someone who primarily reads historical fiction based in the World War II time period, this was very different for me.🤣
Again, I just have to say, this is an incredible book and if you are in the market for a good murder mystery, A Good Girl's Guide to Murder is your best bet.
Thank you so much for reading and I hope you are having a lovely day whenever you find yourself reading this.
Until next time.
