Fighting Help

Hello and welcome!

The other night something occurred to me. It was bedtime for our boys and I was helping our 3-year-old get ready for bed and during the entire bedtime routine, my 1-month-old was screaming despite the best efforts of my husband. I don’t even know why he was really screaming as he generally doesn’t cry about much. Nevertheless, he was crying and wouldn’t be consoled by my husband. He would go stiff as a board and refuse to let himself relax in my husband’s arms. Finally, he gave in and allowed his body to relax and let out some big burps that I’m sure were causing him pain. He then curled up into a tiny ball, supported by his father’s arms, and went to sleep.

How many times is this us?

We’ve had a rough day. We are holding on to worry, anger, sadness, guilt, and regret and allowing ourselves to have a pity party that ultimately causes us pain. We are fighting the comfort God is trying to give us. We are basically doing the same thing as my tiny baby, going stiff as a board and refusing to give in to what will actually help us. In reality, as Christians, we need to allow ourselves to relax, tell God all that’s on our hearts and then rest in His loving arms.

I think in today's society we are somewhat encouraged to have pity parties. I’m thankful I don’t have to live by society's beliefs. I’d much rather give my troubles to God, and get the rest I need to do the next thing, even if it’s hard, with the strength God will provide.

What are you holding onto today that’s causing you to not relax into God’s calming arms? Try giving it to Him, you may just find exactly what you need.

Until next time.
