What I Read - August 2022

Hello and welcome!

In today's post, I wanted to share with you the books I read in August. I will say that August has been different. If you've read my other "what I read in a month" posts (find them here) then you'll know this is a very short list for me. But as I come to the end of my pregnancy, finding the motivation to do anything other than lay down and attempt to get comfortable has been very trying. Generally, at the times of the day I would sit down to read, I either just end up scrolling on my phone (which is a habit I'm breaking, see my post on it here) or falling asleep. It's like my energy is just zapped for the most part. Even if I don't feel tired when I sit down, as soon as I get still I turn into my grandmother and fall asleep.

I also think another thing that has affected my want to read is that I actually finished a series this month. If you've read my posts before, you will know that I have been reading through Karen Kingsbury's Redemption series. You will see in this post that I finished that series this month and honestly, I think I'm grieving a little bit. Luckily there are plenty more books about the Baxter family. I am reading the next series now but I think I'm just a little sad about ending the first series. Does anyone else ever get sad after a good book or series that you will never get the opportunity again to read that book or series for the first time ever again? Maybe it's just me but I do kind of get sad thinking that I will never have those first reactions to the stories ever again.

Alright, without any more rambling, let's get into the books.

Reunion by Karen Kingsbury with Gary Smalley

The first book I read this month was the last book in Karen Kingsbury's Redemption series, Reunion. This has been one of my favorites in the entire series but also one of the saddest ones. This book was full of wisdom and comfort for me. I can't get over the writing style and how real the Baxter family seems to me. I'm so excited to have completed this first series and look forward to reading all the Baxter books that follow. This book specifically focused on the heads of the family, John and Elizabeth Baxter, and a big secret they've been keeping. It also focuses more on the youngest daughter, Erin, and her husband, Sam. That's all I want to say about it, but trust me. As always, I highly recommend this series to anyone. I read a physical copy of this book.

Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear

The next book I read this month was the insanely popular Atomic Habits written by James Clear. I feel like I'm way late to the party on this one. I don't generally love these productivity/self-help sort of books but I have heard literally so much about Atomic Habits that I decided I had to read it myself. I can't lie, it lived up to all the hype. The systems, advice, and tips are incredible. This guy really has some good ideas for boosting productivity and creating habits. I really can't explain too much about it or I'll be here all day, but just read it. Such a good and helpful book! I checked this book out from my local library and read it on my Kindle.

And there you have it. The two books I read in the month of August. Part of me feels guilty that these are the only books I read this month. But, you know what? A passion is not about seeing how much you can get done. It's about doing what you enjoy. There shouldn't be a limit on it. And I do consider myself to be a passionate reader. That doesn't mean I have to read a certain amount of books every month. To each their own! I'm just thankful to be able to read and have the time for it when I can and when I feel like it.

Thank you so much for reading this post and I hope you have a wonderful September. Who knows how much reading or posting on the blog I'll be doing this coming month with our new little one for sure making his appearance this month. Thank God for this season of life!

Until next time.
